Branding for boudoir photography | Feminine brand identity design | Studio Helia case study
Some projects just glow from the beginning—and working with Debbie of Emerald Photography was one of those rare, spark-filled moments. From our very first call, I could feel it: her vibrant energy, the passion behind her words, and the way she spoke about helping women feel confident and truly at home in their bodies. It was magnetic.
Debbie doesn’t just take photographs—she curates intimate, empowering experiences. Every detail of her boudoir sessions is infused with meaning and intention, always guided by the female gaze. Her work is artistic, soulful, and deeply transformative. And the more I listened to her describe what she does, the more I found myself thinking: this isn’t just a client project—it’s a creative partnership I’m genuinely excited to pour myself into.
So before we ever spoke about colour palettes or fonts, we talked about purpose. About the essence of her brand. And that’s what led us to create something bold, sensual, and deeply her.
Enter: Divine Rouge
When I first looked through Debbie’s mood board—a starting point with every client—I felt a jolt of excitement. There it was: this rich, dark feminine energy woven through every image. Think velvet textures, candlelit shadows, jewel tones like deep emerald and sapphire, smudgy reds, and antique golds. It all had this quietly confident, almost cinematic quality.
It wasn’t just beautiful—it was magnetic. Sexy, but not loud. Luxurious, but grounded.
Feminine, but with this strength running through it like a gold thread. It was the kind of mood that made you want to pour a glass of wine, light a candle, and drape yourself in silk for no reason other than you can.
That’s when it hit me: Divine Rouge. It lit something up in me the moment it landed. This name, this feeling—it was Debbie’s brand. It captured that red lipstick energy. The quiet spark that reminds you: you’re powerful, and you deserve to feel it.
“Confident, luxurious—sexy. Like a rouge lip mark left on the edge of a glass of juicy red wine. Passionate and joyful. Emerald embodies the essence of unapologetic femininity. The spark in the darkness.”
This wasn’t just a brand direction—it became a creative permission slip. A north star. Not just for the design, but for Debbie too.
As I began building the visual identity, Debbie was already sourcing props, switching up her studio sets, and styling new shoots with this exact energy in mind. We were working in parallel—like two artists sketching from the same muse. And honestly, it was one of my favourite parts of the entire project.
It created this gorgeous feedback loop where every new photo deepened the story we were telling. It made the branding feel alive.
Three Logos, a Handful of Sketches, and a Creative Turning Point
I had a clear vision from the beginning: I wanted the logo for Emerald to feel rich, timeless, and slightly antique. Something that whispered baroque luxury, but without being overly ornate. Debbie and I had already talked about her long-term dreams for the brand, so I made the decision early on to drop “Photography” from the logo and focus on just “Emerald.”
I presented three strong directions early on, and we gravitated toward one in particular. But as I developed it further, something wasn’t quite landing. The rest of the brand world felt bold and evocative—but this logo felt... safe. Too simple.

And that stung a little. I felt the weight of wanting to nail it. But this is where collaboration shines. Debbie and I chatted again, and her excitement about exploring more baroque influences gave me a creative green light.
So I went back to my iPad and sketched. Dozens of “E”s—curled, elegant, strong. Until suddenly… we had it.
The final mark is soft and feminine, yet powerful and distinct. It pairs perfectly with the wordmark and gives Emerald a sense of legacy. Now that it’s live, it’s one of my favourite parts of the whole project.
Transformation Beyond Design
One of the most inspiring parts of this project was watching how Debbie’s creative practice evolved alongside the brand. As we brought Divine Rouge into the visual identity, she began styling new sets, sourcing new props, and exploring new colour palettes.
What I loved most was her willingness to explore all sides of the feminine. Yes, there were sultry shadows and deep reds—but she also leaned into lightness, pastels, softness, and subtle romanticism. Divine Rouge became something multidimensional, a full emotional spectrum—not just a mood board.
And because the branding system was designed to flex, we were able to showcase this full range beautifully. Whether the imagery was dark or light, the tone remained intentional, empowering, and deeply Emerald. That synergy? It lit me up.

The Result: Bold, Lush, and Unapologetically Her
Seeing the final brand come to life still gives me goosebumps. It’s cohesive, it’s exciting, it’s luxurious and sexy—but more than anything, it feels right.
The tone of Debbie’s voice, the styling of her shoots, the way her work is presented now—it’s all steeped in the Divine Rouge world we built. And yet, it still feels fresh and alive because it’s rooted in real purpose and emotional connection.
I’m proud of the way everything now flows with intention. It’s elegant without being sterile, confident without being loud, sensual without being cliché. It captures exactly who Emerald is—and more importantly, who she’s becoming.
Building the Emerald Empire
What excites me most about this project—beyond the beauty of it all—is the foundation it’s created for where Emerald is heading. Debbie once joked about building an Emerald Empire, and honestly? I can see it.
This refreshed identity doesn’t just support her current work—it opens doors for growth, new offerings, and even deeper impact.
Like the women who step in front of her lens and leave transformed, Emerald Photography has evolved into something more intentional, more powerful, and more magnetic than ever. It’s a brand that celebrates feminine energy in all its forms—and I’m so proud to have played a part in shaping it.
